Description
Ted Brewer was hired by Morgan Yachts to work alongside Jack Corey to build a "fast cruiser." The result was the Morgan 382 and its successors, which produced over 400 hulls. The Morgan 382, with its large fin keel and skeg-hung rudder is a classic example of cruising comforts and good performance in one attractive package.
Bon de la Merde is a well maintained 382 ready for her next cruise. On the outside, she sports attractive red canvas from stem to stern, with a dodger and bimini protecting the cockpit. On deck, her six-inch tall bulwarks and grippy nonskid deck provide solid footing when the wind is up. On the bow is a 50# anchor with 50-ft of chain and 100' of 3/4" rode. A new Lewmar hatch is mounted on the foredeck, and stainless steel opening portlights compliment her subdued cabintop. With a finished 4-inch wide teak toecap surrounding her and plenty of teak handholds and cleats, she has some classy looks little seen on modern boats. Aft-led controls, a mainsail with two reefs and a 140% genoa on a Harken furler give her the flexibility to be single or shorthanded. This particular vessel was upgraded to a larger, more effective rudder that became standard on later models.
Down below, the classic styling continues. Surrounded in warm teak and a teak and holly cabin sole, the galley features a three burner propane stove and oven, new refrigeration and freezer, and a microwave. Plenty of storage surrounds the deep double sink in the form of cabinets and drawers.
To starboard is a deep double berth for guests and a nav station with large opening chart table. A new Standard Horizon VHF/DSC/AIS-receiving radio is mounted conveniently under the AC/DC panels. A cabinet under the table houses a Prosine 2000 inverter/charger to maintain her new dual house/single start battery bank.
Moving forward, an L-shaped settee to port convers to a double berth, and a long single settee to starboard both access a large folding table that can accommodate several dinner companions. With tankage and storage under each and out the the way, there is a place for everything. There is even a dustpan built into the floor for easy cleanup.
Forward and to port is a large head and mirrored vanity with a separate, standup shower. The forward berth can be configured as a double, bunked singles, or double with extra storage. There are lots of options here! With hanging lockers and air conditioning, this boat has serious liveaboard potential!

Patrick Kelly grew up on the west side of Cleveland, Ohio. After taking a local Learn to Sail class as a young teenager, he was hooked and has been on the water ever since. While attending The Ohio State University, he was a member of the sailing team, competing around the midwest. Boating has been a way of life for Patrick; he participates on several racing crews, and holds a USCG Master License. In addition, he is an FAA licensed commercial pilot.
When not racing, Patrick enjoys cruising around the great lakes with his partner Jennifer and their children. He volunteers his spare time to promote junior sailing programs, and enjoys watching his son sail on the Edgewater Yacht Club Junior Race Team.Â
Not only is Patrick a member of the RCR Team, he is also a customer, having purchased his boat through RCR a few years ago. "The expertise RCR provided when I made my boat purchase was impressive, and I hope to provide the same level of excellence to my customers."Â Â
